A Thursday Afternoon

"The greatest journey is within ourselves. The greatest discoveries are waiting within our own hearts." Learned something today that I wished I knew sooner.

Coleman Barks

Thought about
Coleman Barks
today and that's
probably as good
a reason as any
to post some of
The Guest House
by Rumi.

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

Thanksgiving, Look to this Day

Haven't posted in a few days. Here are some words to celebrate Thanksgiving. The first time I heard this poem was when my mother recited it to the boys and I on a long ride home from a hockey game. It was almost dinnertime, we were tired and stuck in traffic and these beautiful words just lifted us all up.

Look to this day
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence.
The bliss of growth,
The glory of action,
The splendour of achievement
Are but experiences of time.

For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision;
And today well-lived, makes
Yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well therefore to this day.

The Last Leaves

All of the storms, the rain and windy weather, have brought down every single leaf.

Finally...

Hard to believe it but the rain finally stopped. What's seemed like weeks of rain finally ended this morning. The big yellow thing is the sun.

Repetition

At work today
I kept making
the same
mistake
over and
over
and
over again.
Something
funny

about being caught in
that kind of groove, like
stepping in gum.

Rain and More Rain

We could use
a little sunshine
in the Garden State.
I have been listening
to sambas to balance
the weather.

Beachfront in Nicaragua

Exciting to hear the story of a friend's trip to Nicaragua...even more exciting to learn they may build a home there. Here's to camping on surfing beaches and exploring dreams.

Happy Birthday O

Owen's
birthday
seemed to
last all
weekend long.
I baked a cake
which looked
absolutely
nothing like
this one.

Mark Twain Morning

"Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits." Mark Twain is reminding me to count to ten at work.
