Gautama

There is a story that tells of a poor young boy who, having nothing to give the Buddha as a gift, collected a handful of dust and innocently presented it. The Buddha smiled and accepted it with the same graciousness he would accept a gift from a wealthy admirer.
In approximately 486 BC, at the age of 80, the Buddha died. He held in his hand a simple pouch of faded doeskin. Before he passed, he emptied the small bag of dust into the breeze, quietly laughing.
His last words are said to be:

Impermanent are all created things;
Strive on with awareness.

Bye Bye Blackbird

Hey Chris, thanks for playing Miles Davis over the phone.

Splitrock Part Deux

Birch leaves clatter
Cattails exhale
Whitehawks screak
The breeze keens
In a cormorant's wings
Spread out to dry
Woodsmoke and beaver musk
Sweetbrier and wild grape
The pickerel scent of lake shallows
When wind gusted wavelets
Spatter the rocks

I find lotus:
Blossoms in the sun;
buds in the shade

The MacArthur Foundation

Couldn't resist this (:
Foundation With Real Money Ventures Into Virtual World
NY Times

For the first time, one of the nation’s largest foundations is venturing into virtual worlds to play host to activities and discussions and explore the role that philanthropy might play there. The foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, is sponsoring events in Second Life, the online world.
