In the News Again Today

Family Takes On Alzheimer's Disease - Sun Sentinel 11/27/07

a small excerpt from another article about Saint Patty of the 13 Tables...

Since June 2006, the Unforgettable Fund has raised and donated $21,600 to Scripps, including a $250 donation from former Gov. Jeb Bush.

"Patty is an inspirational person," Bush wrote in an e-mail. "She is acting on her love of her dad to help others. Alzheimer's is a huge challenge for Florida and I am happy that Scripps and other institutions are trying to tackle the daunting challenge of finding a cure or at least a means to retard its development. Hopefully, the Unforgettable Fund will be a catalyst for that effort."

To put a face and family on a disease he might otherwise see only in a petri dish or under a microscope, Doherty introduced one scientist, Malcolm Leissring, to her father when he was in the final stages of Alzheimer's.

The Power of Friendship

Watched the movie "Away from Her" after reading the article in USA Today that mentioned it, along with references to a former supreme court justice and my parents. Thanks Patty, for helping to demystify Alzheimer's by telling stories to a larger family.

Cover Girl

Congratulations to my dear friend Ellen Buselli...on the cover of American Artist once again. Watch for the January 2008 Issue. Here's a sneak peek from Ellen Buselli: Observing Carefully,Thinking Abstractly and Painting Traditionally

"Painting is all about observation,” says still life painter Ellen Buselli. “The process involves thinking abstractly—even if you’re painting traditionally—not looking at the objects themselves but observing how light, atmosphere, value, color, edges, and temperature work together to give an object its form. If you’re thoughtful about all of the above, a painting will emerge, and a two-dimensional surface will become three dimensional.” Buselli always observes—and paints—from life in her studio, admitting that light is one of the most important elements of her still life setups. “I paint under natural, north light,” she says. “It’s a cooler, indirect light, and shadows remain the same value and in the same position all day.”

Prayers of Thanks

Grateful for these gentle smiles and the ongoing love and support they give so generously.

Thanksgiving Approaching

So much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving...especially my heroes, Rick and Peter who fought like warriors all winter and summer long. Your good health and wellbeing gives us all reasons to celebrate and express gratitude.

Music Placement

I guess we have to share music and not be selfish about it but it's really hard to listen to gentle little songs thrust into BIG commercials. Currently, last year's favorite little group "the weepies" has a song in an Old Navy and a JC Penny commercial. I know that the season will pass quickly and the songs will drop back into oblivion but it always takes awhile. A few years ago, Volkwagen used Nick Drake's song "Pink Moon" and Delta Airlines used "Happiness Runs" by Donovan and it took a long time for me to hear those songs and disassociate them from the the tv images. Yes, I am whining today...whining about the weepies.
